Midtown Theater at 123 Pearl St. – Downtown G.R.

This was one of the most popular theaters in Grand Rapids, and I went to it often as a boy. The theater sat 1200 people and drew huge crowds. The Peoples Building right next door had doors that opened right into the theater…that was cool.

Under the theater were tunnels and it had gold carved woodwork and marble stairs and bathrooms. It was closed and torn down in 1975 and later became the Civic Theater.
