Iron Dog
The
Iron Dog race was started to provide a reliable safe and honorable cross
country snowmobile race in the great outdoors of the Last Frontier
(Alaska). Traditionally held at the end of February, the Iron Dog is a
team race, each team consisting of two riders and two 500cc snowmobiles,
track-driven and ski-steered
There are three classes of
participation: Pro Class, Masters Class (for riders 50 and older) and
Recreational Trail Class. This is the famous snowmobile race that
precedes the Iditarod Dog Sled race - helping to create some of the
trails for the dog mushers to follow. The Pro-Class and Masters Class
trails make up a 1971 mile race, making it the world’s longest
snowmobile race.
